The 2012 Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party(NPP)Nana Akufo -Addo has welcomed Kofi Osei Ameyaw’s decision to bow out of the party’s race.

Adressing the press at his residence on Thursday, Nana Addo expressed the hope that Osei-Ameyaw’s decision will strengthen his campaign to enable the NPP gain victory in 2016.

“I can only say that it is an important step in the campaign. I am hoping very much that his inclusion and his addition to the campaign is going to strengthen it. It will be my intention and I hope it will be ok that he campaigns with me so that we can present this front to the party and to the country.”

While congratulating Osei-Ameyaw for his bold decision, Akufo -Addo also bemoaned the current economic crises in the country, saying “we have a government that is not performing, that is not addressing the issues confronting our people. Our educational system is in a mess, our health system is in a mess. Widespread unemployment in the country. Our economy is in a serious state which now means we have to go for an IMF bailout.”

[contextly_sidebar id=”ZCvzto9Bc4i7Y67FNlr1GtBaKPln2B3q”]He said the NPP intends saving Ghanaians from the economic hardship they are battling with.

“These are the facts confronting the people of Ghana going through difficulties hardship and those of us in power are meant to offer an alternative to these difficulties and that is what the NPP and I are seeking to do.”

Kofi Osei Ameyaw’s withdrawal leaves only three candidates to compete for the flagbearer ticket on October 18.

They are Nana Akufo Addo, former Trades Minister Alan Kyeremanten and the MP for Asante Mampong, Francis Addai-Nimo.

Joe Ghartey bowed out of the race just days after the super delegates congress.

In a related development, Alan Kyeremanten has announced he will formally launch his campaign on Saturday.
