The Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT) is demanding their share of Teachers Mutual Fund instituted by the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT).

They argue that because they are no longer members of GNAT, their mutual fund should be refunded to them.

Some members of the group stormed the Headquarters of the Mutual Fund in Accra on Tuesday to demand the release of their  monies.

The President of the group, Ernest Opoku told Citi News that all efforts to retrieve their monies proved futile.

[contextly_sidebar id=”zcBofq3x7VwcxR459RNJLYEB807XIyqo”] “We have used almost all the legal means to make sure indeed GNAT pays the monies to our people. We have petitioned the Director General of GES to call GNAT people to order. They told GES that the fund is for individual teachers and that individual teachers must come for it. And then we told them that if that is what they are saying, then we will facilitate the movement of our members  from their various homes so they go and demand their monies. If that is the case, then we will show them that  we have men in this country.”

He added that, upon storming the fund’s headquarters with its members, GNAT has, however pleaded for more time to refund the monies.

“The very union that said they won’t pay, now they were begging in front of the police. We are only there to demand our money that we have contributed to GNAT over the  years  and indeed they also understood us that whilst you have contributed your money, you have every right to demand for it. So they have pleaded that we should give them up to October and we have accepted it,” he indicated.

The Fund is a supplementary scheme established by the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) to support its members.
