Tamale based youth group of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) called the Young Elephants has jumped to the defense of the Northern Regional NPP Chairman, Daniel Bugri Naabu.

Daniel Bugri Naabu has drawn criticisms from some interest groups in the NPP over his earlier decision to sanction those who acted contrary to a collective agreement to give Nana Akufo Addo hundred percent votes in the Northern Region at the party’s super delegates’ congress.

Former President of the NPP’s Tertiary Education Students Confederacy (TESCON), Prince Adjei has asked the party’s Disciplinary Committee and the National Council to sanction Daniel Bugri Naabu.

But the NPP Young Elephants group in Tamale has described such calls as needless.

The groups’ President, Abdul Jalil Bawa told Citi News that Daniel Bugri Naabu did no wrong with his earlier decision which he later revoked.

According to him, Daniel Bugri Naabu’s decision to smoke out those who voted against Nana Akufo Addo at the party’s super delegates’ congress in the Northern Region was a step in the right direction.

He urged the outspoken NPP Northern Regional Chairman to remain focused and ignore attempts to stop him from expressing his opinion on issues which are likely to cause the party’s defeat in 2016.

Abdul Jalil Bawa charged, “No amount of intimidation or empty threats will shut up our bold regional Chairman from expressing his views on wrong moves in our party.”
