Outgoing Volta Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo has told Citi News, the protracted curfew on Nkonya and Alavanyo is likely to be lifted before he takes over as new Minister in the Greater Accra Region.

The Minister stated that the two towns have adhered to the peace treaty that was signed last year.

The peace agreement was reached after three-days of mediation talks with government.

The peace talks was aimed finding a  lasting solution to the nine-decade old conflict.

Mr. Afotey Agbo noted that the level of cooperation between the two sides have made is necessary to consider lifting the curfew as soon as possible.

He explained that the residents in both towns “are yearning to have lasting peace on the ground…and I believe there wouldn’t be any problem like we had the time when I was taking over the region.”

The curfew in the area was renewed in January this year by the Minister of Interior but the outgoing Minister has recommended that steps should be taken “so that if possible, we will have the curfew taken off the area…I will do it before I leave the region so by next week, you will hear from us.”
