One of the New Patriotic Party (NPP’s) flagbearer hopeful, Francis Addai Nimo has told Citi News, his vision to lead the party in the 2016 presidential election has not changed.
The NPP, as part of its constitutional requirements held a Super Delegates Congress on August, 31, 2014 to prune the seven aspirants vying to lead the party to five.
The five that made it include: Nana Akufo-Addo, Alan Kyeremanteng, Kofi Osei Ameyaw, Francis Addai Nimo and Joe Ghartey. Joe Ghartey has however bowed out few days after the election.
[contextly_sidebar id=”sQRT8UlwZ02pPruFyyAOS0cM9G1a7IIH”]However, the party will on October 18, hold another election to elect an ultimate candidate to lead the party in the 2016 presidential race.
Although pressure has been mounted on the remaining three who made it into the next stage with Nana Akufo-Addo, to step down, Francis Addai-Nimo has defied such calls to declare his intention to continue with the process.
Speaking on Point Blank on Eye Witness News on Monday, Addai Nimo who polled only 2.97 percent at the Congress said he was elated that delegates put him inthe top five.
“There is no change or deviation in the vision as far as Addai-Nimo is concerned. At the opening of nomination of the party, I went into the contest with the vision seeking to lead the party into 2016. Happily I have been shortlisted among the five to go into the contest and therefore my vision still stands,” he stated.
He added that he was confident the delegates will elect the right person for the party on October 18.
“In the game of politics, we always say that one day is important, and I am confident the delegates will take the most suitable, appropriate and right decision for the party,” he added.
Over 140,000 NPP delegates are expected to participate in the October 18, election.
