We will pursue Gyan brothers in court – Ken Ashigbey

The Managing Director of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCCL) Kenneth Ashigbey has said that his outfit will pursue the assault case on its reporter Daniel Kenu to its logical conclusion.

Baffour Gyan, the elder brother of Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, allegedly led thugs to attack Mr. Kenu last Friday, for what he deemed as an unfair question the journalist posed to his brother at a press conference a day earlier.

[contextly_sidebar id=”7qiA5mzJgcfGTH24EeSKXDkn5pis1uiB”]Daniel Kenu wanted confirmation on whether the allegations that Asamoah Gyan had “sacrificed” his friend Castro when they went to Ada for holidays were true or false.

The question angered Baffour Gyan, who  allegedly led thugs to assault the reporter.

Baffour Gyan, was later arrested when he turned himself in following reports that the police were after him.

According to Mr. Ashigbey posterity will judge him if he agrees to take the case out of court for settlement.

“Our hope is that the AG will also take this very seriously and would definitely take the issue to court. I’m not one person who is going to take a criminal case out of court and say I’m settling it out. What precedence are we setting, and especially for me as a manager of journalists,” he stated.

Speaking in an interview with Citi News he called on the Attorney General’s (AG) office to treat the case with the urgency it requires.

Mr. Ashigbey further condemned the practice where journalists are attacked in the line of their duty.

“It’s a scar on my conscience that on a day to day basis, I’m expecting my journalists  to go out there fearlessly and courageously  do their job. And if they do their job and they are attacked how dare me say that I will do something else but protect their interest and make sure that justice is procured. Everyone will agree that we need to do this thing.  In the same way we believe that the policemen should not be attacked when doing their job, it’s the same sanctity that we need to bring to the media,” he intimated.

Meanwhile, Executives of the Ghana Journalist Association are in the Ashanti Region to conduct an investigation into the issue.

The Ashanti Regional branch has however announced they will boycott all Black Stars-related events until justice is delivered.
