Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah insists that he has not considered quitting his post despite an unconvincing start to 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Appiah, who took charge of the men’s senior national team in April 2012, has been under immense pressure after failing to reach the final of the 2013 African Cup of Nations and crashing out of the 2014 World Cup at the group stage with the Stars.
Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Uganda in the 2015 AFCON qualifier in Kumasi have seen calls from fans for his resignation intensify.
However, Appiah, speaking at the post-match press conference on Sunday, says he plans on staying on as coach of the team, adding he would have to pay compensation if he did resign.
“I will not resign because if I do I have to pay the FA [compensation]. I haven’t thought of resigning,” he said.
Several football analysts have called Appiah’s technical ability into question with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) set to appoint a technical advisor to help “steer the national team in the right direction.”
Appiah was evasive when asked whether he needed technical assistance saying that he “cant answer yes or no. If we’ve money to pay 1,000 people to advise me, fine.”
Citi Sport understands that former Black Stars head coach, Milovan Rajevac, is favourite for the job.
