The Ashanti Regional  branch of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) has condemned Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan for allegedly sending some “macho men” to assault Mr. Daniel Kenu, the  Ashanti, Regional correspondent of the Daily Graphic .

The said macho-men were allegedly led by the senior brother of Asamoah Gyan, Baffour Gyan, who is a also a former Black Stars player.

The assault is believed to have occurred on Friday evening at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, when the reporter was there to receive his accreditation for the Ghana-Uganda game on Saturday.

This emanated from the fact that Mr. Kenu had asked the Al Ain striker a question in an earlier press conference to clear the air of the rumour that he had sacrificed hip life musician, Theophilus Tagoe, popularly called Castro.

That was at a press briefing organised by the Ghana football Association on Wednesday at the Miklin hotel where the Stars captain nearly confronted the reporter

“The GJA finds it strange and shocking that such a nice opportunity given to the player should be abused It should be put on record that whether Asamoah Gyan likes it or not the rumour is out there and the reporter without any malice wished that he used the occasion to clear himself,” the statement signed by the president and secretary of the GJA branch in the Ashanti read.

“In any case, why did Baffour Gyan not lead thugs to attack Lawyer Justice Ampah when he called for the arrest of Asamoah Gyan for questioning in the wake of the Castro tragedy?

“The GJA would like to remind the family of Gyan to stop thinking that their so called popularity in football could clothe them with authority to treat journalists with contempt,” the statement noted.

Earlier in the week two students of Koforidua Polytechnic were arrested for taunting Gyan with the disappearance of Castro at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The musician [Castro] and a female friend, Janet Bandu were reported missing on July 6 while on a weekend getaway with Black Stars striker, Asamoah Gyan at Ada.
