The Minister of Interior Mark Woyongo has hinted of a massive recruitment drive to get more competent lawyers into the Police Service as a way of strengthening its legal department.

According to him, the move will help address the problem of “shoddy prosecutions” which dents the integrity of the service.

Speaking in an interview with Citi News, Mr. Woyongo said the initiative seeks to empower the police service to be efficient in handling cases that are brought before it.

[contextly_sidebar id=”AqHM2WVTYRfiYxUmJbUaYmZMIUrtii9a”]“There will be the need for us to recruit lawyers to prosecute some of these cases. Sometimes you may have a good case, but if you don’t have a very good prosecutor, you will loose it. That is why I think that we need to strengthen the legal aspect of the work of the police.”

He also disclosed that the investigative department of the police service will also be resourced to function properly.

“The police cannot  prosecute unless they have adequate information, that is why they have to sometimes do painstaking investigations before they prosecute so what we need to do now is to strengthen the investigative aspect of the police work,” he added.
