As the apathy surrounding the Black Stars ahead of their African Cup of Nations qualifier against Uganda keeps growing, Sports Minister Mahama Ayariga has announced that the gates of the Baba Yara Stadium will be opened for free on Saturday.

His decision would see the players and the Ghana Football Association breathe a huge sigh of relief following analysts prediction  of a possible record low turnout.

Kumasi-based sports journalist Stephen Amos, who confirmed the news to Citi Sports on Friday, said the decision will hinge on security arrangements to be made at the match venue.

“There will be no sale of tickets and I have just confirmed from the President of the Ghana Football Association who is saying that they are going to meet with security officials to arrange how the tickets will be distributed to ensure that fans do not exceed the stadium’s capacity,” he said.

Some Black Stars fans have not hidden their anger at the team following their embarrassing performance at the world cup in Brazil.

Some of them hooted at the players during one of their training sessions in Kumasi, but captain Asamoah Gyan has since apologized to Ghanaians and said they will play to win back the love of their fans.

Kumasi, which has been the favoured destination for Black Stars games due to the huge support they enjoy there, has now turned its back on the team.

Kick off is at 4:00pm.
