Flames from a fuel tanker explosion at Assin Fosu in the Central Region, has spread to nearby stalls and homes, burning them down to the ground.

An eye witness, Emmanuel Padmore Eduful said the tanker exploded after residents noticed it was spilling its content.

Narrating the incident to Citi News, Eduful said: “In the morning, there was a cement truck trying to offload cement and while the driver was trying to reverse the truck, unfortunately, it hit a tanker carrying diesel.”

“We called the Fire Service and after 30 minutes, they were here but by then, the fire had started and it was spreading,” he reported.

The Fire Service personnel are said to be struggling to douse the fire at the scene which is close to the Fosu market.

“The place is still burning but the Cape Coast Fire Service personnel are also around and they are trying to quench the fire,” Eduful added.

It is however unclear yet if any of the occupants in the structures are injured or dead according to eye witnesses.
