Executives of the Greater Accra Constituency branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have declared their support for one of the party’s presidential hopeful, Nana Akufu-Addo ahead of the October 18 national delegate’s congress.

The executives made up of constituency secretaries and organizers said Nana Addo remains the party’s best bet for the 2016 election.

Speaking at a meeting with Nana Addo, spokesperson for the executives, Daniel Odei Appiah said “the Greater Accra Region is firmly behind Nana Addo.”

“We came to congratulate Nana Addo for that wonderful showmanship he displayed in the just ended super delegates congress. We saw the votes he polled. It’s a result of hard work, commitment and dedication and also a confirmation of party’s expectation. So we came to say thank and congratulate him for availing himself to be used by the party to bless Ghana,” he said.

Nana Addo on his part thanked the executives for their support and urged them to ensure that he is elected as the flagbearer for the 2016 presidential election.

“I have to thank Greater Accra for the extraordinary votes that you gave me on Sunday. 92 percent of the votes is not small. But as your secretery said, this is just phase one of the ultimate thing. The ultimate for our internal battle in the party is the 18th of October, the ultimate, the real ultimate is 7th December 2016. For the time being we have to focus on  18th October,” he said.

Nana Akufo-Addo polled more than 80 percent of the total votes cast in the party’s Super Delegates Congress on August 31 to qualify as one of the first five.

One of the five candidates, Joe Ghartey has already opted out of the race.

Meanwhile, Nana Addo will contest Alan Kyerematen, Francis Addai Nimoh and Kofi Osei Ameyaw for the October contest.
