A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Arthur Kennedy has advised the party not to hastily push key figures to contest the 2016 elections.
He was commenting on the number of people who thronged the residents of Nana Akufo-Addo on Thursday demanding that he contests the 2016 election on the ticket of the party.
Dr. Arthur suggested that party members and leadership must focus on changing the things that denied them victory in both the 2008 and 2012 elections.
In an interview with Citi News, he agreed that Nana Addo “may indeed be our best candidate but it is also possible that there are other very good candidates.”
According to him, based on principle, the party should investigate why it lost elections in a row by “determining whether there are certain things we need to change before we go into another election.”
Dr. Kennedy was of the opinion that maybe the campaign message of the party, the party’s strategy, mode of communication to the electorate or maybe the flagbearer could have affected the party’s chances of winning elections.
The former Trades Minister under the Kufuor administration, Alan Kyeremanten, the party’s the 2012 Vice Presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Dr. Isaac Osei are all reportedly being urged to contest to be the party’s presidential candidate.
The NPP is however scheduled to organize its annual national delegates conference and national executive elections on April 12, 2014 in Tamale.
