The Ghana National Service Scheme (GNSS) on Tuesday announced the release of the 2014/2015 postings at a news conference in Accra.
About 71,189 graduates have been deployed nationwide to undertake their national service as required by law.
The Executive Director of the scheme, Alhaji Alhassan Imoro, speaking at the event, said personnel were deployed to both the public and the private sectors, saying that the education, health and the private sectors were the major beneficiaries of the 2014/2015 scheme, receiving 52 percent, 12 percent and 16 percent respectively of the total number.
Alhaji Imoro said the postings would be available online for prospective national service persons to access by the close of work today.
He said service personnel who had problems with their postings, based on particularly health and marital issues, should apply for re-posting, supported with all relevant documents for consideration.
Application for re-postings will begin on Wednesday, September 3.
Polytechnic graduates
Alhaji Imoro announced that the GNSS had deployed prospective 2013/2014 graduates of the various polytechnics nationwide for their national service even though they had not taken their final examination.
The prospective graduates were unable to write their final exam owing to the close to four months’ strike by the Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana (POTAG).
He said user agencies were, therefore, required to release the students to go and write their final exam in their respective schools as would be scheduled.
“The students will, however, forfeit their annual leave in August to make up for the exam period,” he added.
According to him, the decision was taken in consultation with the leadership of the Polytechnic Students Association and the Ministry of Education.
Reducing unemployment
Alhaji Imoro said as part of initiatives to reduce graduate unemployment, the scheme had intensified collaboration with the private sector to ensure that service persons deployed to the sector upgraded their skills while on the job and were motivated to become entrepreneurs.
He said key deployment areas in the private sector included mining, commerce, banking, telecommunications, energy and the hospitality industry.
In her remarks, the Chairman of the GNSS board, Mrs Gifty Mahama Biyiri, entreated the service personnel not to consider their postings as punishment but rather as a call to national duty and an opportunity to contribute to the national development agenda.
