The leadership of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) will today resume discussions with government over the payment of their book and research allowance after an inconclusive meeting last week.
The meeting is also aimed at getting the striking lecturers back to the classroom after five weeks of withdrawing their services.
UTAG members joined their colleagues in the polytechnics who were also on strike to demand the payment of the allowance.
Polytechnic lecturers however called off their three-month long strike last week after engaging in similar negotiations with the government.
The polytechnics have announced they will resume academic activities this week but public universities across the country still remain closed due to the ongoing strike.
The president of UTAG, Dr. Samuel Ofori Bekoe in an earlier interview with Citi News said although the discussions were “very fruitful…we didn’t conclude.”
He was however optimistic that Tuesday’s meeting will resolve all outstanding matters.
