A member of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) Council of Elders, Ayisi Boateng has said the party will save more resources if the other three candidates vying for the presidential candidate slot  step down .

“If the rest of the contestants have decided to throw their support behind Nana Addo, there is nothing wrong with that. We will go to Congress and move on from there. By then, no one will be spending in campaigning for votes because it is very expensive to organise campaigns,” he said.

He further opined that the party will pull more resources together to push its national campaign if the three candidates drop out of the race.

“We were appealing to their conscience as indivduals that if after yesterday’s congress in all the various regions, we see that they had performed abysmally and in order not waste more resources,we will kindly let them reconsider the idea of contesting for the October Congress,” he said.

Nana Addo won 81.28 percent of votes cast at the delegates congress held to prune the number of candidates seeking to lead the NPP in the 2016 general elections.

One of the five candidates who made the final list of five to contest the next stage of competition , Joe Ghartey has already opted out of the race while another contender, Francis Addai Nimo has said he will consider his options.

Nana Addo and Alan Kyerematen will therefore be joined by Francis Addai Nimoh and Kofi Osei Ameyaw for the October contest.

Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku and Stephen Asamoah Boateng have been dropped from the race.

Speaking on Eyewitness News, Mr. Boateng stated that it will be advisable for the other three candidates to step down and throw their weight behind Nana Akufo Addo
