The Divisional Chief of Nkroful in the Ellembele District of the Western Region, Nana Kwasi Kutuah V has rubbished the recent publications alleging that he has been destooled, insisting that he is still the legitimate Chief of Nkroful.

According to him, the said reports were a ploy to dent his hard-won reputation by some evil and criminally-minded persons who seek to destroy the good image of the people of Nkroful and his chiefdom.

A statement issued and signed last Thursday by his Secretary, Nana Kwaku Gyabin II, who doubles as Abusua Panyin of Mvuma, indicated that the alleged destoolment by the group that calls itself “The concerned youth of Nkroful”, is a brazen attempt to fan anarchy at Nkroful.

It noted that “Our customs and traditions provide procedures for the enstoolment and destoolment of a Chief; certainly, “concerned youth of Nkroful” cannot arrogate to themselves the power to destool, just by cooking up written charges, and distributing the same; Beating “gong’ ‘gong” to announce destoolment at the local level; and Getting the mass-media to extend the publication at the national and International level.”

The statement further stressed that the customary practices regarding chieftaincy, are recognized by law; and there must be caution and due diligence so that youthful zeal does not trample upon the statutes of the law.

It mentioned that the said allegations have also been made and complaints lodged at the Court of the Omanhene at Atuabo; and the matter is pending arbitration at Atuabo.

“It is therefore surprising that, out of the blue, the youth would assume the dual role of prosecution and judge, to arrive at the unilateral decision of destoolment”.

He therefore called on the general public and the media to, as a matter of urgency, disregard any of such publications and treat it as palpable fabrication.
