Three persons who were said to have conspired, abetted and robbed one Abraham Ndegu of his Toyota Corolla Taxi, were on Thursday remanded into police custody by an Accra circuit court.
The three, David Amoah, together with two accomplices now at large were charged for conspiracy to commit crime and robbery, while Jacob Nyarko and Agyen Brifo Daniel were charged for abetment of crime.
They all pleaded not guilty to the charges and are to reappear before the court, presided over by Mr Francis Obiri on September 2.
Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ernest Acheampong, told the court that the complainant is a driver while the accused persons are all traders.
He said on August 2, at about 0100 hours, David and two accomplices, now at large, hired the services of the complainant who was in charge of a Daewoo Matiiz Taxi from Kwame Nkrumah Circle to Old Passport Office.
The prosecution said on reaching a spot around the Ghana Institute of Journalism, David and his accomplices pulled out a pistol and collected the said taxi from the complainant including his G-Tide mobile phone, and an unspecified amount of money being his daily sales and bolted.
He said the complainant made a report to the police and all efforts to arrest the accused persons proved futile.
DSP Acheampong said on August 15, at about 1230 hours, David and his accomplices resurfaced at the same spot and again attempted to snatch another taxi from the owner, but David was arrested and handed over to the police.
He told the court that David, in his caution statement, admitted having snatched a Toyota Matrix Taxi with his accomplices during the month of July.
He said David handed the taxi over to Jacob who gave them an initial amount of GH¢200.00, as advance payment and later passed it to Agyen who sold it at GH¢ 7,000.00 in Kumasi.
