The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) is reportedly plotting to dupe Ghanaian cocoa farmers of GH¢1.6bn by pegging the dollar rate at GH ¢3.

This is according to the 2012 vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Dr.  Mahamadou Bawumia.

“We have to understand why they[NDC] are doing what they are doing… by setting the exchange rate at GH¢3 to USD$1,  they are able to steal GH¢1.6 billion from the cocoa farmer”, he said.

He made this revelation during a tour with Nana Akufo-Addo at Tema ahead of the NPP special congress on Sunday, August 31.

The former deputy governor of the  Bank of Ghana also accused the NDC of  running the nation’s economy with propaganda, adding that the Cocoa Board is planning to apply for a loan of 2 billion dollars to deceive the farmers.

“We are tired of propaganda management of this economy… In two weeks time cocoa board is planning to take 2 billion dollars of loan to come and pay cocoa farmers”

Dr. Bawumia later urged cocoa farmers in the country to vote  massively for the NPP in 2016 to revive the ailing economy and put a stop to the propaganda.

He recently accused the Ghana Statiscal Service and the Bank of Ghana of manipulating data on inflation and foreign exchange to deceive Ghanaians.

Government statistician, Dr Philomena Nyarko has, however, refuted those claims and warned Dr Mahamadou Bawumia, to refrain from making unsubstantiated allegations against the Ghana Statistical Service.
