The Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana (POTAG), has finally called off its three-month-long strike over research and book allowance.

POTAG begun their nationwide strike in May over government’s plan to scrap the book and research allowance and establish a national research fund.

The Association subsequently withdrew their services after various efforts to have the decision reversed by government proved futile.

General Secretary of POTAG, Ibrahim Adamu confirming the end to the strike on Asempa FM’s Eko Si Sen, said they had a meeting with the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations after a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed to that effect.

“We were able to get some modalities towards the payment,” Mr. Adamu said, adding that “we [POTAG] had a fruitful discussion from all parties involved.”

Each lecturer was entitled to GH¢400 and GH¢1,500 respectively per year for the book and research allowance respectively.

The University Teachers Association of Ghana has also been on strike over the same matter. It is unclear if UTAG too will soon be calling off its strike.
