National Security Coordinator, Col. Larry Gbevlo-Lartey (rtd) says he welcomes the decision by the University of Ghana to take legal action against the demolition exercise he carried out at the school.

“That’s fine. We will meet them in court; let’s meet in court and we will see who is not going by the rule of law,” he said.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Thursday, Col Gbevlo-Lartey maintains, he followed the rule of law in his actions.

According to him, the court will duly determine who is adhering to the rule of law saying, “I am very much interested in the rule of law, so let us meet in court and we will see who is not going by the rule of law; whether they have any permit to put what they put there and all that. Let’s meet in court and we will have some interesting result.”

The Academic Board of the University of Ghana has directed management of the University to take legal action against the National Security Coordinator and his team for unlawfully demolishing a toll booth and security post on the university premises without the permit or permission of the University authorities.

But the National Security Coordinator in response said: “It is good that they are going to court, it will help us for tomorrow’s sake so that this kind of indiscipline can be curtailed’’.

“Let them [University of Ghana] go to court and I will explain to them why they are wrong and we [National Security] are right,’’ he added.

Armed police men led by the National Security Coordinator on Tuesday around 1:30am demolished the toll booth which was under construction at the main gate of the University of Ghana.

Col. Gbevlo-Lartey justified the action on Citi FM, saying the toll booth was wrongly sited and was a nuisance to the public.
