An Accra Circuit Court has remanded Sonny Rocky Turkson, a Businessman, in police custody for conspiracy to commit crime, kidnapping and extortion.
The accused pleaded not guilty and would re-appear on August 28.
Detective Inspector Manuel Sarkwa told the court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri that the complainants in the case is a Pastor and two of his neighbours, while the accused person is a businessman.
He said on August 18, the accused persons and three others now at large, went to the residence of the two other victims and posed as policemen, but failed to provide any identification when the complainants requested for their particulars.
He said the accused person and his gang unlawfully arrested the two victims and assaulted them for an alleged cyber fraud.
“The accused person and his accomplices escorted the victims to the Nima Police station and demanded a cash sum of GHC10, 000.00 from the complainant as a condition for their release,” he said.
Detective Inspector Sarkwa said the complainant reported the case to the National Swat Unit at the police headquarters, who arrested and rescued the victims.
The case was handed over to the anti-armed robbery unit of the Criminal Investigations Department(CID) headquarters for investigation, where the accused admitted the offence and mentioned one Roger, Victor and Obed as his accomplice.
