Mepe Health CentreIn a remarkable and heartwarming feat, the Mepe Health Centre, built by the Citi FM Foundation in collaboration with the Ghana Chamber of Mines has successfully conducted its first delivery.

The health centre which has other ancillary facilities including a four-unit staff quarters was provided as part of relief efforts for communities affected by the Akosombo Dam Spillage.

Michael Kofi Zigah, the District Health Director of North Tongu, in an interview with Citi News described the intervention as timely, citing its contribution to addressing the community’s health infrastructural challenges.

“This is the first delivery we had had since the commissioning of the facility. After commissioning we were seeing routine cases, clients who reported sick and we manage them on daily basis, pregnant women also come in for antennal and other clinical services. This intervention has been very timely and impactful, especially with the disaster the community faced.

“The Midwife at the newly commissioned Mepe Health Centre conducted the first successful delivery on Saturday, May 18. A very committed team, led by Mr Ebenezer Azienyeku (newly placed Physician Assistant. With an average OPD Attendance of 40 clients per day and 15 ANC registrants within three weeks of operation,” Mr Zigah said.

Citi TV and Citi FM, in collaboration with the Ghana Chamber of Mines, on April 10, inaugurated a state-of-the-art health centre in Mepe, situated within the North Tongu Constituency of the Volta Region.

The completion of this facility came as a relief to residents, particularly those affected by the aftermath of floods resulting from the Akosombo dam spillage, which occurred in October last year.

The floods had a profound impact on over 13,000 individuals in the North Tongu district, leaving them in urgent need of assistance from government bodies and charitable organizations.

In addition to the Medical Centre, four housing units have also been constructed to accommodate medical personnel.
