Asamoah Gyan – Black Stars captain

Ghana lost its first pre-World Cup friendly against Montenegro played in Podgorica.

The home side took the lead under a minute through a penalty converted by Dejan Damjanovic and held on throughout the first half despite the dominance from the Stars team that had the likes of Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, Jordan Ayew and Christian Atsu.

Coach Kwesi Appiah rang the changes in the second half and introduced a stronger set that had captain Asamoah Gyan, Albert Adomah, Kwadwo Asamoah, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Daniel Opare introduced while Abdul Majeed Warris, John Boye, and Jerry Akaminko were maintained from the first half.

The changes brought precision into the attacking game of the team but the Montenegrins held firm in defence and managed to create chances on the counter attack.

Kevin-Prince Boateng came close to a leveler in the second half but his left-footed drive was parried out of play by the Montenegrin goalie to deny the Stars an equalizer.

Black Stars starting lineup vs Montenegro (first half): Kwarasey, Boye ,Akaminko, Opare, Addy, Essien, Badu, Wakaso, Atsu, Waris, J.Ayew.

Changes made in the second half:
