A statement signed the Executive Secretary to the President; Dr. Raymond Atuguba said: “The President exercising the powers conferred on him by the Local Government Act section 204, has dismissed the DCE for Ahafo Ano South, Gabriel Barima with immediate effect.”

The statement also said the Ashanti Regional Minister has been directed to act until a substantive DCE is appointed.

Gabriel Barima was recently caught on film throwing tantrums and storming out of a durbar because a member of the audience reportedly said “tweaa” during his speech.

There were calls for his dismissal but Mr. Barima was reprimanded by the Local Government and Rural Development Minister and was allowed to stay on as DCE.

However, he reportedly asked for royalties for popularising “tweaa” in another interview this week and that seemed to have earned him the wrath of the Minister of Local Government Minister who issued a statement to express his disgust.

The statement issued earlier on Wednesday said: “In view of this development, the Ministry is reviewing its earlier decision to ensure that Hon. Barima is appropriately sanctioned according to the high standards of public office.”
