The President of IMANI Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe has called on government and the general public to stop ‘moralizing’ the on-going POTAG strike and analyze the situation with an open mind.
“…the attempt of trying to moralize everything in this country…if we reduce the argument to that level, then you defeat the whole argument of tripartite negotiation,” he asserted.
The Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana (POTAG) has been on a nationwide strike for three months, protesting the non-payment of their book and research allowances.
This stance by the association prompted the Ministry of Education to direct the Controller and Accountant General to freeze their August salaries.
Reacting to the ongoing situation on Citi FM’s The Big Issue, Mr Cudjoe described the stance taken by POTAG as legally valid.
He blamed the government for allowing the strike to go on for three months and called for a drastic intervention by authorities to find solutions to the problem.
“The issue about whether people should be paid or not, there were warning signs, the way we do our things in this country, where we wait till the last minute, there are lives to be saved economically”
“It appears that the bible say if you don’t work you don’t eat, and in the same bible does say that individuals must accept responsibilities. So this thing of moralizing everything must cease,” he said.
