The Convention People’s Party (CPP) is calling on other smaller political parties in the country to capitalize on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s poor performance and the internal rifts within the New Patriotic Party and unite to win the 2016 elections.
The CPP says it should be considered a sign for the smaller parties to rise up and save Ghanaians from the two main political parties.
The Nkrumahist parties in Ghana, the CPP, the People’s National Convention (PNC), the Ghana Consolidated People’s Party (GCPP) and the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) have resumed merger talks ahead of the 2016 general elections.
Similar talks in the past were suspended due to the timing and other unresolved dynamics within the respective parties.
However, following the violence which broke out at the NPP’s headquarters in Accra on Tuesday, the general secretary of the CPP, Ivor Greenstreet is urging Nkrumahist parties to “focus on how to take advantage of any opportunity presented to them.”
“Certainly, when your competitors have the kinds of internal difficulties both within the ruling government and the largest opposition party, it is a sign,” he told citifmonline.com.
He advised the smaller parties involved in the merger talks to display unity of purpose to present a viable alternative to Ghanaians.
“We must come together to show Ghanaians…a unity of purpose, unity of ideas and offer a vigorous way forward to try and solve the myriad of problems we all can see,” he said.
Mr. Greenstreet maintained that the development has presented a “significant opportunity” because the populace is in dire need of deliverance from the current government.
According to him, their opportunities have been doubled, but quickly added that the smaller parties “have a lot of work to do but there is hope.”
