The body of the late former Chairman of the National Development Planning Committee, Paul Victor Obeng has been laid to rest in his hometown, Adansi Akrokerri in the Ashanti region of Ghana.

His burial on Saturday marked the end of a three-day state funeral for the statesman.

Hundreds of Ghanaians were at the family house in his hometown to pay their last respect.

President John Mahama, former President Jerry Rawlings and wife Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings and many dignitaries were also present to grace the occasion.

Also ex-president John Kufuor and other statemen paid their respect to him on Friday when the body was laid in state in Accra.

Catholic archbishop of Kumasi, Archbishop Gabriel Anokye, who led the requiem mass for the devout Catholic, described P.V Obeng as a strong Christian who held strongly to the Catholic faith, adding he contributed immensely to the cause of humanity.

He was considered by many as a model politician across the political divide.

A state burial was held Friday at the fore court of the State House in Accra for the P.V Obeng.

The Ghanaian mechanical engineer, politician and chairman of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) council died on May 17 at the Lekma Hospital after he collapsed at a Filling Station on the Spintex Road.

He had suffered a cardiac arrest, according to reports.

The 67-year-old was also a senior presidential adviser to President Mahama.
