Residents of Atwomanso near Oppong Valley in the Wassa Amenfi East District of the Western Region witnessed a horrifying scene last Sunday when a mentally challenged man beheaded and chopped his sister into pieces.

The man, Yaw Annor, 65 has since been over powered and handed over to the police.

According to the Western Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Ms Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, the suspect, is said to be mentally challenged and had earlier attacked a middle-aged woman at the house.

She said after everybody left for the farm and other economic activities, Annor, for no apparent reason, butchered her sister, laid her on the floor and started chopping her into pieces.

ASP Adiku said while Annor was attacking the sister, there was no one available to rescue her and that while chopping the body into pieces, a neighbour chanced upon the incidence and raised an alarm.

She said later, some members of the community managed to overpower Annor who was very aggressive and handed him over to the police.

According to her, careful examination by the medical doctors and information made available to the police by the family indicated that Annor had a history of a mental problems that  made it difficult for other family members to accept him and care for him as expected.

However, his younger sister, Adwoa Tsoekuwaa, 40, accepted to cater for Annor but unfortunately, his sickness came back leading to the untimely death of his sister.

ASP Adiku said the body of Adwoa had since been deposited at the Wassa Akropong government hospital.

The suspect, Yaw Annor, has also been detained by the Police while he receives medical attention.

She added that he would be put before court for referral to a psychiatric hospital for further investigation and possible permanent confinement in a mental home.
