Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama has described the late Paul Victor Obeng as a unifier and a nationalist in a tribute to the former Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission at the State House in Accra.

In the tribute, read on his behalf by the Minister for Communications, Omane Boamah on Friday, August 15, President Mahama spoke of his sadness at the death of his “senior brother, advisor, comrade and mentor.”

The president recalled his last few moments with P.V Obeng, stating that they spoke “two days before the shocking news at the conclusion of the National Economic Forum in Senchi”.

“P.V was at his usual wise and unifying best when he spoke to me.

“At Senchi, he was actively engaged and conveyed the need for all Ghanaians to be included in the process moving forward,” he said.

The president spoke of his first encounter with PV.Obeng, stating that he was “engaging and a driven man” and was always available “to provide valuable guidance and direction”.

President Mahama also described the late P.V  as humane, humble, compassionate and dedicated.

“His eloquence came with suspense,” he added.

The president also lauded P.V Obeng’s experience, expertise and commitment to national unity and called on all Ghanaians to draw inspiration from his life.

P.V Obeng died on May 17 after suffering a cardiac arrest and will be laid to rest on August 16.
