All district assemblies will soon be provided with waste collection equipment to address the nation’s sanitation challenges.
Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Julius Debrah, says plans are afoot to procure more waste collection equipment for onward distribution to the assemblies.
Unhappy about the recent cholera outbreak in the major cities, he gave the assurance that government will tackle the situation.
He dropped the hint during his recent working tour of some selected districts in the Northern Region.
Accompanied by the Mayor of Tamale, the Minister inspected some ongoing projects in the Tamale Metropolis.
These included the Aboabo supermarket and the affordable housing scheme at Gbalahagu, a suburb of Tamale.
Mr. Debrah asked the Mayor of Tamale, Abdul Hanan Gundado to include an ultra-modern car park in upgrading the Aboabo supermarket.
He took advantage of the visit and monitored the Electoral Commission’s limited voter registration exercise.
He visited some polling stations in the Tamale Metro Area and by extension the Savelugu/Nantong district.
Mr. Debrah was impressed with the incident free registration exercise.
He however called for immediate replacement of the broken biometric registration equipment which stalled the exercise in some of the centres he visited.
