Agona cleans up to prevent Cholera outbreak

The Agona West Municipal Assembly has organized a clean-up exercise to rid the municipality off filth.

This measure according to the Municipal Chief Executive of the area, Samuel Oppong is to prevent the epidemic from spreading any further.

Refuse in the Agona municipality was left uncollected for two months, thus, resulting in refuse mounting up in the area.

The Central Region and Greater Accra region are battling the Cholera outbreak with about 19 deaths recorded in Accra so far.

Speaking to Citi News, Municipal Chief Executive for the area, Samuel Oppong expressed worry over the soaring number of Cholera cases in the area but insisted the assembly had adopted the necessary measures to prevent the disease from spreading further.

“We have procured chemicals to fumigate disinfect all the areas. We have also called on people from other districts to come and help. Within this week we can rid the entire area off the filth” he said.

He then called for the need for attitudinal change among residents.

“Because we contracted Zoomlion Ghana limited, people have even stopped clearing the gutters in front of their homes because they now feel it isn’t their responsibility, attitudinal change is what we need,” he added.
