The Chairman of First SKY Group, owners of First SKY Construction, First SKY Commodities and Volta Serene Hotel, Eric Seddy Kutortse, has called on Ghanaians and private entities to support the building of a national cathedral for the country.
President Akufo-Addo cut the sod for the construction of a national cathedral in Accra in 2017, which will serve as a national non-denominational Christian worship centre for the country.
The project is part of the many others that will be undertaken in various parts of the country as part of Ghana’s diamond jubilee celebrations.
An 11-member committee has been tasked to raise funds for the project.
At the 15th anniversary and Thanksgiving Service of the First SKY Group on Sunday, January 14, the company donated an amount of GHC 2 million to support the building of the National Cathedral.
Speaking to Citi News on the gesture, the Chairman of First SKY Group, Eric Seddy Kutortse, said “this year, we together as a board have prayed to God, and he says he needs a permanent place to abide.”
“As a nation, this has also been the vision of the President. He has even gone beyond to cut sod for the construction of the church. This church is not for any denomination, but as a National Cathedral, it is not for Muslims, the Pentecost Church, or Assemblies of God Church, but a National Cathedral.”
“That is why we are fully supporting this divine idea. In total we are donating two million Ghana Cedis, one million in cash the other one million as building materials which include 4000 bags of cement, tones of iron rods among others etc’ he added.
