A beautician, Chantel Nunekpeku, who, reportedly out of jealousy, doctored and distributed images depicting her boyfriend’s former girlfriend naked, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison by an Accra Circuit Court.

Soon after Chantel changed her plea, the court presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku handed down the sentence.

Chantel’s boyfriend, Kayode Kalode, a music producer who maintained his not-guilty plea, will reappear on January 25.

The two are accused of photoshopping the complainant’s pictures onto someone else’s nude body.

They were charged with offences relating to obscenity and domestic violence as well as emotional and psychological trauma.

Prosecuting, ASP Agnes Boafo said Destina Tata, the complainant resides at Awoshie in Accra whilst Chantel and Kolade who are in an amorous relationship, reside at Sowutuom, a suburb of Accra.

The prosecution told the court that the complainant was an ex-girlfriend of Kalode.

According to the Prosecution, on January 23, last year, Chantel took the pictures of the complainant which she downloaded from social media and photoshopped them onto the image of a nude woman, creating the impression that the pictures were those of the complainant.

Prosecution said the pictures were then posted on Instagram with the complainant’s name attached. The photo was said to have gone viral on the platform.

The act, according to the prosecution caused the complainant emotional and psychological trauma thereby undermining her integrity, privacy, dignity and her worth as a human being.

According to the prosecution, the complainant reported the case to the Police and Chantel and Kalode were subsequently arrested.

During her interrogation, Chantel admitted posting photoshopped nude pictures of the complainant on social media, stating that she did it out of jealousy.

Kaloade has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢ 10,000.00 with two sureties.
