BoG builds two-storey classroom block for Tamale school

Ghana’s Central Bank has constructed a two-storey building for Tamale’s premier public English/Arabic school, Nuri Islam located at Warizyehi in the Tamale Metropolitan Area.

The modern edifice has eight classrooms and other ancillary facilities such as a toilet, urinal, a staff room and an office for the headmistress.

Professor Amin Alhassan, Dean of Agribusiness and Communication Sciences at the University for Development Studies (UDS) on behalf of the school’s management and the Alumni commended the Bank of Ghana for the kind gesture.

He singularly extolled a former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Abdul Nashiru Issahaku (an old student) for the initiation.

Professor Amin Alhassan called for philanthropic support to uplift the image of Nuri Islam which he described as the pillar of circular education in the Northern Region.

A senior officer of the Bank of Ghana, Alhaji Abubakari Lawal said the project formed part of the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

He reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to support the education sector.

Alhaji Abubakari Lawal implored the school’s management to maintain the facility for its intended purpose.

“The culture of maintenance is very important and we pray that Nuri Islam management will maintain the edifice for generations yet unborn to benefit from it.”

The Northern Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Alhaji Mohammed Haroun Cambodia revealed that Nuri Islam was absorbed as a public school in 1973.

He also thanked the Bank of Ghana for the effort and admonished other financial institutions and corporate bodies to support the education sector.

Alhaji Mohammed Haroun Cambodia commended government for introducing the free Senior High School programme and entreated parents and guardians to take advantage of it and send their children to school.

Headmistress of Nuri Islam English/Arabic School, Hajia Salamatu Sulemana said, “Thank you Dr. Abdul Nashiru Issahaku and the Bank of Ghana for your humanitarian service.”

She promised management’s determination to safeguard the project.

There were solidarity messages from sister schools including the Ambariya English/Arabic Institute.
