The La General Hospital continues to record an increasing number of cholera cases.

Officials at the La General Hospital in Accra revealed that the hospital recorded 74 new cases between Saturday and Monday.

‘’In fact from Saturday to today [Monday] we have seen new cases; 74 of them,’’ the hospital administrator, Philip Afeti Korto told citifmonline.com.

According to the Administrator of the La General Hospital,  the hospital has treated 586 cases since it recorded the first case on June 9.

Mr. Afeti Korto also revealed that six persons had died at the hospital from the disease, saying ‘’most of them were brought in dead already’’.

Meanwhile, in line with the hospital’s appeal for support to help deal with cholera case, Macbells Company Limited on Monday presented mattresses, disinfectants, bleach, liquid soap, gloves and other items to the hospital.

The administrator expressed gratitude to Macbells for their kind gesture.

“I must say that I am extremely impressed because this is a hard time for us a hospital with the treatment of the Cholera patients; we thought that the cases will decrease but they keep on increasing.’’

He concluded that the hospital needs more support.

‘’Macbells’ action should open the door for more support,’’ he added.

On his part, the Financial Controller of Macbells Company Limited, Raymond Bampoe-Addo, said the company taught it wise to help the community in which it operates.

‘’The management of  Macbells wants to assist and help the community in which it operates as well as support the fight against cholera,’’ he said.

The Public Health Directorate of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) says the outbreak of cholera in the metropolis is gradually reaching an epidemic status.

Over 500 cases of cholera have so far been recorded in Accra alone between June and July which has caused the death of five people.

The assembly has been accused of supervising indiscriminate waste disposal in the capital which has resulted in the outbreak of the disease.
