The Ashanti Regional Police Command has established a special task force to deal with the increasing cases of violence which has characterized the on-going limited voters registration exercise in the region.

Some of the equipment of the Electoral Commission [EC] was destroyed by an unknown group of persons on Friday while another individual was stabbed in the stomach at Abrotia.

As such, the Police Regional Commander of the area, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye in an interview with Citi News is asking persons assaulted by supporters of  either the National Democratic Party (NDC) or the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to report the incident at the nearest police station.

He pledged that, the Ashanti Police force would do their work without fear or favor.

DCOP Kofi Boakye noted that, 120 police officers will be deployed across the region to go to every station” and oversee the on-going registration exercise.

The Electoral Commission, on Monday August 4, began a nationwide process across 6,000 centres, to register Ghanaians who turned 18 after the 2012 general elections and adults who could not register during the previous registration exercises.
