Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai has been elected President of the African Organization for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC) at its just-ended biennial International Congress in Kigali, Rwanda.

Dr. Beatrice Wiafe is the first Ghanaian Consultant-Physician to hold the competitive, two-year tenure Presidency of AORTIC.

AORTIC is the continent’s pre-eminent non-profit organization working for interventions and innovative programs towards the prevention and control of cancers in Africa.

The Organization was formed in 1983 by African cancer care workers, scientists and their friends, and is dedicated to the promotion of cancer control on the continent.

The Philanthropist Physician also heads the pro-poor anti-breast cancer NGO, Breast Care International, and doubles as the Chief Executive Officer of Peace and Love Hospitals.

Dr. Wiafe, a multiple International and Local awards winner, has bagged a Century International Quality Award in 2015, the World Leadership Business Person Award in 2015, and the Belgium-based European society for Quality Research Award, among countless other honours from reputable institutions spanning the globe.

In a post-election interview, Dr. Wiafe reiterated her commitment to the campaign against cancer, stating that “this election only places a heavier burden on my administration to leave a legacy rich in capacity building, cancer research, and increased advocacy on the continent.”
