The Ashanti Regional Chairmen of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) are accusing each other of being responsible for the recent acts of violence at some registration centers.

There were reports of violence at some registration centres in the region resulting in the destruction of some registration equipment and the stabbing of one person.

This incident prompted the Ashanti Regional Police command to engage both parties on Friday in a bid to restore calm in the region.

The regional chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako told Citi News, the NDC regional chairman, Yaw Obempeh ordered some thugs to use scissors to pierce the eyes of NPP agents monitoring the limited registration exercise.

Reacting to Mr. Boasiako‘s pronouncements, Obempah described the allegations as false and warned that his party agents will defend themselves when the need arises.

“If my brother will stop everything that he is doing then the NDC will stop, because we need to protect our agents. We can leave him to beat our agents,” he said.

Meanwhile, the regional Police command has warned that it will not tolerate any acts of violence from any political party.

The Electoral Commission’s limited voters registration exercise began on Monday, August 4 and it is taking place in 6,000 centres across the country.

The on-going registration exercise will also allow persons who could not vote during the last registration exercise and those who turned 18 years after 2012 to register.
