Ghanaian actress Jackie Appiah celebrated her birthday on 5th December, 2017 and as typical of her, she left the comfort of her home to share her joy with others.

Unlike previous years when she extended her love to orphans on her birthday, Jackie turned her attention to some aged women at Krobo Odumase in the Eastern Region of Ghana, this year.

She presented cash and items such as rice, toiletries, mattresses, cooking oil and cloths to the women.

In her speech, she explained that her decision to celebrate her birthday with the old women stemed from the fact that she cherishes the role of women in society and the challenges some women go through when they get to that stage in life.

“I am here today to celebrate this day with our mothers who sold their cloths and sometime starved themselves to cover us and feed us,” she said.

She therefore urged all to support aged women who sometimes struggle to even get people to talk to.

“I am hereby, by this act, echoing the need to pay attention to the aged especially ageing women within our population. Sometimes we are so busy growing up, forgetting the whole experiences of loneliness, neglect, ageing disorders and most of all wrongful witchcraft allegations that are levelled against them,” she added.

The women, wreathed in smiles, gave Jackie Appiah a rapturous welcome and expressed her appreciation to her for spending time to visit them and make them part of such an important day in her life.

In their appreciation, the community also presented Jackie with beads, one of the priceless items in the Krobo communities.

Later, Jackie paid a courtesy call on the Kono of the Manya Traditional Area, Nene Sakite II who commended her gesture, and asked for God’s blessings for her.

“This is the essence of life; to let people share in your happiness. Most people would have celebrated this day with their friends and family, but you came all the way here to make us part of your birthday celebration. May God bless you and make you greater,” he said.

Jackie Appiah is an award-winning Ghanaian actress of international repute. She has starred in movies such as Set Apart, Princess Tyra, The Perfect Picture, Heart of Men, Mummy’s Daughter, The King is Mine, among a blizzard of others.
