Former Youth and Sports Minister, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah has refuted media speculations that he has set his eyes on the position of the Vice President of Ghana.

Afriyie-Ankrah, who is currently a Minister of State at the Presidency, insists media reports suggesting that he is planning to vie for the Vice President role are baseless and untrue.

He said: “These speculations are unhealthy and inappropriate for the body politic of the party. As a committed party member, who has played various roles in the party and as a member of government, my main focus is to work with my colleagues in helping the government to deliver our manifesto and make life better.”

“It behooves on us to focus and rally behind the President and the team to ensure we succeed. What we require now is to give the President and the government our total and unalloyed support rather than these unhealthy accusations that lead to suspicion, tensions, baseless rumours and allegations.”

“There is a lot of work to be done before the next election so I will not be drawn into needless banter,” he said.

He reckoned the country was going through a transition; adding that, the President and the Vice President were working hard to fix them.

“The President and his Vice are working very well together, the Vice President is the chairman of the economic management team, experienced and knowledgeable, and in my view doing an excellent job of supporting the President.

“We are going through some temporary challenges, which the President and the Vice President are working hard to fix. There are tough hurdles ahead that require our complete focus in order to create a better life for all,” he said.
