There is heavy police presence at Akropong in the Eastern Region following the installation of two separate Chiefs to fill the vacant Okuapemanhene stool.

The Okuapemanhene stool has remained vacant for close to two years after the death of the late Oseadeyo Addo Dankwah III.

Police personnel, numbering about 50, have been deployed from the Eastern Regional Police Command to calm tensions between the two factions.

Odehye Kwasi Akuffo

The two Chiefs, Odehyie Kwasi Akuffo, and Nana Kese both from the Sakyeabea Royal Family were on Tuesday installed as chiefs by the Queen Mother Okuapemhemaa Nana Nketia Obobi and Baamuhene Nana Afari Bampoe respectively.

This was followed by the pelting of stones and firing of several gunshots.

The Head of the Municipal Security Council and the Municipal Chief Executive of Akuapem North, Denis Aboagye, in an interview with Citi News, assured of the safety of all residents who may be living in fear.

“There has been no casualty, there has been no quarrel, there has been no fight. Everything has been peaceful as it should be. From the onset, we have assured the people that their safety and security is paramount so we just put in place measures to ensure that their property and lives are protected,” Mr. Aboagye said.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Gyan Kyere, who is in charge of the team, says the police will be on the ground for a number of days to patrol the town to avert and neutralize any possible attacks.

“Our concern is to provide enough security for the people. We don’t care about who the chief is or isn’t the chief. As at today, our men are here until tomorrow and even beyond; we will continue to have security here until the situation is calm.”

Citi News understands that the two chiefs have both been confined at Adumhene’s Palace and Baamuhene’s Palace, undergoing other traditional rites to be presented to the public in three weeks time.
