The Ghana National Blood Service has received a major boost following a decision by loyalty insurance to donate an amount of GHc10,000 to assist in blood donation exercise across the country.

Speaking at a maiden blood donation exercise organized by Loyalty Insurance as part of activities to mark the company’s “Red November”, the Executive Director of the company, Elias Oppong Ababio said his outfit will dedicate a percentage of the earnings to assist the activities of the national blood service.

“This maiden blood donation exercise is the first in a series of blood donation exercises and financial support to the National Blood Service. As mentioned by the Managing Director, Mr. Frank Yeboah, a portion of the insurance premiums received by Loyalty Insurance would be used to support the National Blood Service. We are starting with seed money of Ten Thousand Cedis (GHC 10, 000). This is not a nine day wonder but something that will be done on a sustainable basis,” he said.

Mr. Elias also called on “individuals and corporate entities to take an insurance policy with Loyalty Insurance knowing that a portion of that a portion of the insurance premiums you pay to Loyalty Insurance is in support of the National Blood Service.”

On her part, the Chief Executive officer of the National Blood Service Justina K. Ansah showed appreciation to loyalty insurance and called on other corporate entities to come to their aid.

“We at the National Blood Service Ghana are delighted to partner with Loyalty Insurance Company LTD to jointly undertake advocacy and public education programme to promote voluntary blood donation in Ghana,” the Blood Service CEO added.

She added that they consider “ this partnership between National Blood Service Ghana and Loyalty Insurance as strategic to the attainment of the national objective of establishing a blood supply system that depends on 100% voluntary donation by the year 2020.”
