Officials of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) are currently interrogating the former NPP MP for Nkoranza North constituency, Eric Amoateng who arrived in the country after serving a 10-year jail term in the United States for drug related offences.

According to Citi News sources, the interrogation is to de-brief him and also begin the process of confiscating his assets.

Citi News sources also say he might be slapped with a new charge for fraudulently obtaining a passport.

The former MP touched down at the Kotoka International Airport, Accra at exactly 1400 GMT on Delta airline number DL478.

After brief checks at the airport, he was whisked away for further interrogation at the Narcotic Control Board (NACOB) headquarters.

He was accompanied by two officers from the US State Department who were aboard his flight to ensure his transfer to Ghanaian state officials.

Citi News’ Kojo Agyeman reported that the NACOB officials were waiting for the ex-lawmaker on the tarmac “so when he got there, two US State Department officials handed him over to the NACOB officials and they just whisked him away amidst tight security.”

It is believed his lawyers are currently with him at the offices of NACOB.

Meanwhile, supporters from his constituency who thronged the airport to welcome him were left disappointed after he was whisked away by NACOB officials.

The ex-legislator was arrested on December 11, 2005, for illegal possession of 136 pounds of heroin estimated at about $6 million.
