Scores of anxious applicants have been left stranded at some branches of the GCB Bank Limited at Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, following a system failure in the sale of electronic vouchers for the Ghana Police Service recruitment exercise.
This is not the first time applicants have been left stranded at GCB branches in their attempt to purchase these forms.
Citi News’ Ashanti Regional Correspondent, Hafiz Tijani, who visited the Asafo and Harper Road GCB branches in Kumasi, reported that some applicants who were mostly first timers, trooped these two banks around 3:00am to get the vouchers at the cost of Ghc50:00, but waited for over two hours before they were attended to.
Expressing their frustration to Citi News, the applicants demanded the forms be distributed to other outlets to make patronage easier.
“I am here for the Police forms and I came here as early as 3:00am. When we came, we sat here until 8.30. The Manager then told us to wait for a while. When he went into the office, he came back telling us to return next week for the other forms. We have been here for so many hours ..I am stranded. It is stressful. They should give these forms to other institutions,” an applicant complained.
“I have been here since yesterday [Monday]. I was here in the morning but the queue was too long so I decided to go home. I was here today around 5.30 am. We waited till 8. 30am, and we were asked to write our names. We did that and we were given some forms to fill,” another applicant complained.
Managers at the two GCB branches have however refused to comment on the issue.
GCB is the sole bank responsible for the sale of vouchers which are to be used to complete the registration process online.
The registration voucher, which costs GH¢50 contains special codes which enables applicants to access registration forms on the Ghana Police Service’s website.
The recruitment process will end on December 15, 2017.
Several cases of people being duped in scams during the recruitment process compelled the Police Service to introduce the electronic registration to prevent the use of intermediaries.
Be wary of fake recruitment forms
Ahead of the recruitment process, the Police Service had cautioned the public to be wary of fake advertisements about an ongoing recruitment exercise.
It said it had noted with concern the malicious post which had been making rounds on some social media platforms including Facebook.
