The Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC), has beefed up security in the troubled Yunyoo enclave of the Bunkprugu/Yunyoo district.
This followed sporadic gunshots there over the siting of the capital for the yet to be created Yunyoo District.
[contextly_sidebar id=”ieALhgBgQABhFX2xXW91gPfajffq5Syp”]Whilst some residents are advocating that Yunyoo should be the district capital, others are proposing Namong, the birthplace of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Northern Regional Chairman, Daniel Bugri Naabu.
This has created seeming tension there, hence the reinforcement to maintain law and order.
Yunyoo, Namong, Nasoani, Jimbale, Gbankurugu and Temaa, are among the densely populated farming communities in the Yunyoo area.
Residents there are predominantly Bimobas, Konkombas, Mamprusis and other minority tribes.
The RECSEC Chairman, Salifu Saeed told Citi News that adequate measures have been put in place to prevent any untoward situation there.
He admonished residents of the area to exercise maximum restraint and cooperate with the government to decouple Yunyoo from the Bunkprugu/Yunyoo district.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during his recent tour of the Northern Region announced his administration’s intention to create additional two districts, namely Nantong and Yunyoo.
According to the President, other six districts including Sagnarigu, West and East Mamprusi are to be upgraded.
The Northern Region currently has 26 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, and 31 constituencies.
