Taxi driver remanded for allegedly defiling 14-year-old

The Circuit Court in Hohoe in the Volta Region, presided over by His Lordship Nana Brew, has remanded into prison custody an accused person, Solomon Akuffu, for allegedly defiling a school girl on two occasions.

The prosecutor, ASP Joseph Quainoo, who doubles as the Commander for the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit (DOVVSU) at Hohoe, told the court that, the complainant, Asem Mary, is a teacher of Hohoe M/A Experimental Primary School, and a member of the school’s girls counseling unit living at Gbi-Gbledi, a suburb of Hohoe.

The victim (name withheld) is a fourteen-year-old student of the said school.

The accused person, Solomon Akuffu, 29, is a driver.

The victim lives with her aunt, while the accused is married to the victim’s auntie, and both live in the same house at Hohoe Low Cost.

On 2nd November, 2017, the aunt of the victim traveled, leaving behind the accused person and the victim.

On the 6th day of November, 2017 that midnight, the accused person took advantage of the absence of the wife and forcibly had sex with the victim.

After the act, the accused person rendered an apology to the victim. He however forcibly had sex with her again on 8th November, 2017.

The victim after the second act went to the school, and informed her school teacher who in turn told her Headteacher and a police report was later made.

The accused person was subsequently arrested.

A medical report from the Hohoe Municipal Hospital confirmed that the victim had been sexually assaulted

The accused, who confessed to the crime was charged with the offence. He however pleaded not guilty in court.
