A non-governmental organization, Mercy Foundation Child Development Centre has celebrated its 5th anniversary.

The foundation located at Mamfe in the Akuapem Municipality in the Eastern Region provides holistic development and support for children and youth within its catchment area.

The Foundation at the commemoration of the anniversary over the weekend used the opportunity to unveil a new mechanized borehole at the centre.

Speaking at the event, a patron Partnership facilitator for the Akuapem Mountain Cluster of child development centres, Mr. Samuel Okoampa commended Mercy Foundation for the wonderful work it is doing in grooming the next generation of leaders for Ghana.

He used the opportunity to highlight some of the projects that have been undertaken by the Akuapem Mountain Cluster and the Mercy Foundation.

He said they have been able to assist five communities with seven mechanized boreholes, supported 11 beneficiaries to further their tertiary education, and supported 20 beneficiaries in acquiring vocational skills.

Mr. Okoampa said they have also equipped 110 caregivers with small scale businesses, 138 beneficiaries who were not in school have also been enrolled, as well as providing 15 highly vulnerable children and caregivers with shelter.

The Partnership facilitator also noted that they have provided medical assistance to over 4,100 beneficiaries and their caregivers, among other things.

The Mercy Centre, a not-for-profit initiative by the Apostolic Church-Ghana was formed in partnership with Compassion International Ghana, a non-governmental organization.

The foundation forms part of the children and youth ministries of the Church and currently has 214 beneficiaries between 4-15 years within the Mamfe community who attend their skills training programmes on weekends.
