The Nanumba South District in the Northern Region has held people’s forum at Bondalikadibu, the area council, to engage the grassroots in the decentralization process.

The forum afforded the residents an opportunity to get to know the workings of the district assembly, where it also outlined its planned programmes and activities intended to be executed across the district.

Participants asked questions about the workings of the district assembly and how developmental projects are distributed  to the various communities.

In his speech, the District Chief Executive for Nanumba South, Natogmah Munkaila, said the district is working to extend development to the various communities.

He said the grassroots need to get involved in initiating the projects so they can own them.

He urged citizens to pay taxes whilst assuring that his administration will focus on improving the local revenue mobilization in order to be able to meet the rising cost of waste management and other services.

He mentioned some of the programs the New Patriotic Party administration will be rolling out within the first four years which will benefit the people, and urged them to take advantage of them.

He mentioned the planting for food and jobs, one village, one dam, and the free senior high school as some of the programmes, and also noted government’s plan to expand the livelihood empowerment against poverty (LEAP) project, to cover more communities.

Under the planting for food and jobs, it was revealed that three dams will be constructed in three villages in the district in 2018.
