The Electoral Commission (EC) has defended the current voter’s register by describing it as credible and genuine.

This declaration by the Electoral Commission comes days after the 2012 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akuffo Addo called for an independent forensic audit of the register which in his opinion was ridden with anomalies.

Speaking to CitiNews, the acting director of Public Affairs of the EC, Christian Owusu-Parry assured Ghanaians that register has no anomalies and that all  such names have been identified and removed.

He also insisted there was no need for a new register since the voters register is regularly updated by the EC through its yearly exhibition exercise across the country.

According to him, individuals who feel there are names in the voters register that shouldn’t be included should not file a formal petition to the EC for those names to be removed.

The Electoral Commission started its limited voter registration exercise on Monday and the exercise is expected to take place across 6,000 voting centers across the country.

It is expected that, the ongoing registration exercise will allow persons who could not vote during the last registration exercise and those  who turned 18 years after 2012 to register.
